We at The Real Hemp Straw team would like to introduce the future of compostable and biodegradable products. Our scientists have created a completely new hemp based formula that is proven and certified to biodegrade and compost in all natural environments. By doing this we have manipulated the commonalities of regular plastic goods such as straws. Our main goal was to recreate a familiar product that not only looks, but feels identical to plastic.

We chose hemp because it is one of the most sustainable, versatile, and subsidized North American resources. Morris Beegle, co-founder and president of WAFBA (We Are For Better Alternatives) explains that “Hemp is a more sustainable, organic and regenerative agricultural crop, and most everything that you can make with cotton or soy or corn can be made with hemp – with way less impact on the Earth.”

Every day the United States goes through a staggering 500 million plastic straws. A leading scientific study notes that of the 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic produced, only 9% has been recycled. Of that remaining number, 12% has been incinerated and about 79% ends up in landfills, dumps or the natural environment.

Because of how lightweight straws are, they easily make their way to waterways and oceans. On average it can take up to 200+ years for straws to biodegrade. Simply, this is a problem that is not going to go away quickly.

Since we have no “plan B” for our planet, coming up with this simple solution is a huge leap in the right direction.

When you drink out of these straws, their durability will last until you are done drinking from it, rather than bending and breaking like paper straws.

Think of all the plastic not being used when we work together to switch to these environmentally friends hemp straws! The biodegradable capabilities will allow it to dissolve once it is thrown away and the problem of plastic disappears.
